Adult Jujitsu
Our Adult jujitsu program is a fantastic way to increase your confidence in most situations. This side benefit from learning a traditional marital art with a modern approach can be something wonderful in your life. This confidence along with becoming more physically fit and more flexible comes from a physical activity that teaches you something useful, one of the best ways to defend yourself in all aspects of physical conflict.
Your training can be done once or twice a week in traditional jujitsu, or combined with other adult programs that compliment each other, you can train up to five times a week. You will learn at your own pace a pace that is set by your individual skill, desire and ability. EveryoneÕs different and that is what makes you great. We want to enhance you, make you better, more confident, more fit and able to defend yourself on all levels of conflict. Maybe best of all you get all these things and more by learning a physical activity that is useful, fun, and exciting.
Traditional jujitsu is the root of most modern combat systems and many martial arts system still teach and use the principles and techniques that were taught centuries ago and are still taught today at Total Ryu. Some of these systems are Judo, Aikido, Krav Maga, MCMAP, Army Combatives etc.
Total Ryu Jujitsu teaches striking, throws, and sweeps, joint locks and breaks, chokes and holds, safe falling, movement and ground defense.

This is not an easy kickboxing type program. The practitioners of karate, the masters the teachers lived to be 90 or 100 years old. It was thought of as a cure for most physical ailments including asthma, and allergies.

Adult Weapons
When most people think about weapons in martial arts they think about staff's and swords. Or maybe they don't think about those things at all, they only think about being threatened with a weapon of some kind, like a club, or a knife or even a gun. Being comfortable around weapons of all types is important for Total Ryu students. Learning how to use traditional weapons is just as important as learning modern ones. Conversely learning how to defend against traditional weapons is just as important as defending against modern ones. Traditional weapons techniques is the forerunner to modern weapons defense and disarming systems. Learning how they figured things out in the old days helps us to understand how to approach problems and issues that today's world presents to us.
So you will not only learn how to use the Katana and the Bo staff, but how to use a knife and disarm a firearm. Your path will be a personal one, directed only by you and your comfort level and interest in specifics. Traditional weapons taught are the Bo Staff, Sai, Katana, stick. Modern weapons taught are knife, stick, and hand gun disarming.
Adult Street MMA Program
Getting is shape and learning a useful skill has never been easier. You will gain confidence, and abilities that will help you in the rest of your life. We are not teaching you how to fight, we are teaching you how to survive and this is the case with all Adult Programs at Total Ryu. (not a sport)
Some individuals really like the new world of MMA. Frankly I love many aspects of the sport. However, it is just a sport with rules of engagement that are not and will not be present in self defense situations and violent encounters. Our approach is using the best of traditional Martial Arts that evolved the MMA sport in a focused approach on ground defense and we have no rules. The street MMA Program utilizes all of the throwing and striking techniques of our traditional Jujitsu program but has an added emphasis of ground fighting. In fact you may say that ground defense is the focus of this class and it is the same way that throwing is the focus of the traditional jujitsu class. However, there are many other aspects included, striking, kicking, movement, choking, joint locking sweeping and throwing.

I believe martial arts training is for everyone - which is why our students range from age five and up. There is no age limit. A major milestone for all our students is the achievement of Black Belt, which adults can typically achieve in three years. We offer a Black Belt Fast Track class one Saturday each month for students looking to learn at a faster pace.
